Sly Dog Cellars Wine
About the Wine
Sly Dog Cellars' first release is a custom crafted Cabernet
Sauvignon from the noted Red Hills District of Lake County. Lake
County, once a part of Napa County, produces some great wines from
the likes of noted wineries -- Steeles, Wildhurst, and Langtree to
name just a few.
The Red Hills District is noted for its terroir which produces
unique and distinct grapes. The red gravely loam soils allow deep
root penetration which help produce small flavorful berries with
succinct fruit flavors. The hot summer days and cool nights are a
perfect weather climate that contribute to fruit forward, well
balanced and flavorful cabernet sauvignon.
Our Sly Dog Cellars Bin 4499 Cabernet Sauvignon was created in
small bin batches and meticulously blended by winemaker Chris Markell. Chris is an advisor to wineries on four continents. His
attention to detail and stare-of-the-art winemaking practices shows
in the many layers of flavors and complexity of this special wine.

The Package
Last
summer, just as the days grew shorter and the weather was still
warm, a group of our neighbors here in Napa Valley sat outside on
our
deck overlooking the vineyard drinking wine and enjoying dinner
together. Our dogs, always part of our families, circled the
barbeque
and the smell of steak cooking, waiting their turn. Finally,
somebody
set their plate down while they reached for another glass of wine
and
got back to the discussion at hand. I watched as one of the dogs sneaked up
on
that plate of barbequed meat, hoping we wouldn't notice.
Our discussion was about what to do with the cabernet sauvignon
growing
just off the deck, how sweet to let it get and when to pick. We were
enjoying anticipating the next vintage! As neighbors and friends,
the
decision was a weighty one and needed discussion, consideration and
courage.
But most importantly, such a wine deserved a great name. Bringing it
to
market meant choosing a name carefully. As Richard, Dan and Jeff
came to

a decision about when to pick their grapes, the dog lifted that
steak
right off the plate! And it was easy, all things considered, to use
that
sneaky dog for the name. So, Sly Dog Cellars came into being.
